Namibia
Spending a day in a Himba village to better understand their way of life is incredibly interesting... it serves as a mirror for us, voluntary consumers (at least we believe we are) of a sick capitalist world... how many beauty products do we need to dare to go out in public? This woman showed me how the Himbas bathe... without water. Water is a very scarce and important resource... you can't just spend it on anything... so all they do is create smoke with charcoal and take a smoke bath, then apply red ochre to the skin... and it works! I took this photo (again, without asking for a pose) at the end of the bathing ritual in the family hut, using the light filtering through the slightly open door.
